A Common Woman With Common Thoughts.

This semester I am taking a humanities class online, every week we have discussion boards.

This weeks question: Share one aspect of your identity that gives you confidence (I.e., a new hair style, being empathetic, etc). Share an art piece, literary work, dance, or other creative expression that represents this quality and explain why you chose it.

My answer:

Love. From reading to playing video games to watching tv/movies to writing my own novels... I have surrounded myself with love stories, which not only helps build but also lets me express my own overwhelmingly huge heart and capability for unconditional love. Not just romance, but love of family, friends, and of the self. And as someone who tends to identify with characters who need love the most, I can realize that sometimes needing love is not just needing to receive it but needing to be able to express it and give it back.

The fact that I love so openly and so completely - whether it is my best friend or my cat or spamming my Instagram account with my new obsession (Crowley/Good Omens), gives me the greatest confidence. Because even if someone is a jerk or I don't ace a class or I don't get a particular job or whatever thing that could bring me down or feel lesser, I know that it's okay. It's okay that I have faults, that I make mistakes, that I have weaknesses, and that I will never be famous or go on these five-star vacations or maybe never even earn the degrees I hope to. And here is a quote that perfectly sums up why:

From The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks: "I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But I've loved another will all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough."

Love is ineffable and every inch of my life is filled with it and to me, that means I have and will lead the greatest life I can lead, with no regrets, and that will always be enough.
